A seed planted in late 2006 by a newspaper article, inspired Robert Roldan and Jacquelene Burke to contact awarding-winning director Jose Garofalo. The new relationship was nurtured during early 2007.
Mission The Saint Lucie Film Society will promote filmmaking in St. Lucie County; Fort Pierce and Port St Lucie. It is dedicated to the promotion of independent and foreign films as an art form and to bring films of artistic and cultural importance to the community. It's mission is to develop events that will expose their neighbors to culturally diverse films. It will also assist in the education of future filmmakers through educational programs, scholarships, and other forms of support.
St. Lucie Film Society believes their projects will promote community development, increase tourism, promote the film industry in the area to the world, and promote films as a tool to increase understanding and awareness of various educational topics in discussions and seminars.
In May 2007, the St. Lucie Film Society will hold their first event of many.
The St. Lucie Film Society is a division of PRAFHA a 501 C 3 non-profit cultural and educational organization.
